Why I like cars

Point in question: you can visit friends in them.

Always nice to see friends on a sunny Tuesday evening after work, especially when the motor that gets you there is a 2002.
Pictured here on Sean's road with Sean and Dave, that's the closest that jersey will ever get to rugby tackling someone :D

Jay Leno's 2002

5:08 into this clip, right hand side. Same colour as mine. Apparently he is a big fan of the 2002 and has written a few articles on it. The search is on..

150 Km and loved every metre

Had an absolute blast this weekend burning about the place in the 02. Managed to put about 150Km under my belt over a sunny Saturday and Sunday. No breakdowns or complaints. Discovered that one of the springs on the throttle linkage is possibly a bit weak and doesn't quite send the linkage all the way home. Will clean it or replace it if necessary. Nothing major though :D

Taking it up

Managed a longer spin in the motor last night. Did a few laps of the block and got her up to 50mph. I have to be seriously careful as I have a bit of a heavy right foot. Might try a quick motorway dash tonight and go for the 60mph. Hopefully she'll be fine. I reckon she's capable of a fair bit more than that too.

More to come...

once around the block

Managed to drive the car around the block last night without any trouble. She's actually running better than ever but I only brought her up to 40mph. Will go for 50mph tonight if the weather holds.

Eamon, a nice neighbour, came over the other evening and gave me some great help and advise on getting the points set up correctly. Looks like the idle jet could have been causing problems too so cleaning that out helped. Over the course of an hour or two we tried 3 different sets of points and numerous attempts at setting the idle speed before we got it to where it is now. Hopefully it'll last.

Good times!

Cleaning out the Carb

The introduction of new points and a new condenser into the distributor hasn't fixed my stalling issues.
I have also changed the vacuum advance pipe from the dizzy to the carb and ensured that the diaphragm in the dizzy is still working.
I have taken the airbox back off the motor and am currently cleaning out the carb. Hopefully cleaning out the jets and the float needle will sort it. Fingers crossed!!

Top of the Carb casing with float needle still attached.

Float chamber and throttle on still fitted to the manifold.

Airbox update!

Got the angle grinder but was a bit late to be annoying the neighbours. Did do a sneaky little bit though.

This blogging stuff has gone a bit OCD on me.

Airbox Restoration

As I've been waiting on parts I decided to pull the airbox off the car with the intent to respray it as it's a real eye-sore in the engine bay. My weedy dremmel isn't really cutting the mustard so picked up a wire brush for the angle grinder today. Just need to get the grinder off Dad now.

I'm thinking of painting the airbox jet black, hopefully it'll look good!

You can see where I've taken some of the paint off already.
