Flickery Fuel Gauge

I'm currently waiting on parts to arrive from Jaymic in the UK to replace the coupling between the propshaft and the gearbox. It's a rubber part that has perished over time and pieces of it are starting to flail off it now. I can't really drive the car until I have this fixed as it could cause damage to the flange on the gearbox.

Until then I'm occupying myself with other minor jobs on the car.

The other day I noticed that my fuel gauge was jumping up and down slightly (just a few mm) when the indicators were operated. A bit of reading of the Mike McCartney resto book and the haynes manual points to a bad earth in the boot.

Under the panel that covers the fuel tank there is a earth to the left side. I removed the earth strap and gave the body and the strap a good going over wtith a wire brush, applied some vaseline to the points and reconnected. Now the fuel gauge is behaving as expected.

An easy fix to a minor annoyance.

more to come...
