Never let a sleeping dog lie

Those of you who know me will know that I can never leave well enough alone. Although my parts haven't arrived yet I decided to do a bit of tinkering around with the car in the hope (false) that I could get her idling at low rpm without stalling.

I turned my attention to the fuel pump thinking that if there was any issue with it I'd be getting fuelling trouble. I have an inline fuel filter fitted to my line but it's after the pump. Was there when I got the car and something I'll be fixing. I pulled the filter out of the pump, this is the first stage of filtration, and was confronted with a lot of crud.

Unfortunately, it didn't make a difference to clean it out but at least I felt like I was doing something. Who was it that said "Doing something is better than doing nothing"? Probably Bear Grylls or some other idiot like that.
